Intro DS: Overview

Data Structures Data types and data structures are important elements in all widely used programming languages.

A data type is a class of concrete objects that all share some similar properties. For example in java there are eight primitive types of data types that include int, string, boolean and so on. If we take boolean we will see that every boolean has either the value of false and true which means that they can easily be grouped together.

A data structure is a place to store groups of data types in order to work with them efficiently. A programming example would include arrays which store objects for easy access. A real world example would include a parking lot where the automobiles are the data types. The automobiles are arranged efficiently so that they take up less space and can easily exit or enter the parking lot.
