This is a one-semester course designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of computer science and programming. It gives students experience in the following programming languages: Scratch, Jeroo, and Java. Scratch is a block-based programming language developed at MIT. Jeroo is a simplified version of Java that uses a graphical interface to teach programming. We conclude this course with an exploration of Java using the Greenfoot graphical interface.
The problems in Jeroo and Greenfoot presented in this course are taken directly from their respective organizations. The House with Sunrise project presented in the Java materials were originally developed by Stephanie "Stevie" Lord at the St. Johnsbury Academy. The author for this course did not develop these materials.
